Daniel Harvey "Jack" Abbott, 89, of Rileyville, died May 27, 2016, at his home.

He was born on October 27, 1926, in Rileyville and was a son of late Daniel Sim and Edith Shenk Abbott.

Mr. Abbott was a retired dairy farmer and lifelong resident of Rileyville. He was a member of Rileyville Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent over the years. He was a lifelong member of the Rileyville Ruritan Club and held many offices in his earlier years. He served on the Board of Directors of the Shenandoah Mutual Fire Insurance Company for many years. Mr. Abbott was an avid horseman and continued his lifelong love of horses into his later years, continuing to ride in his 80s.

He is survived by his son, Bruce Abbott of Lynchburg, Va. He is also survived by his daughter, Jane Williams of Clinton, Maryland, and his daughter, Linda, and son-in-law Tom Mowery of Rileyville. In addition, he is survived by six grandchildren, Daniel, Amanda, Michael and Hannah Mowery, all of Rileyville, and Brooke and Brennan Abbott of Lynchburg. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Abbott was also survived by his very close friend and farm helper of more than 50 years, Walter "Bubby" Kibler of Rileyville.

He was predeceased by his wife, Elaine "Nooky" Norris, who died on January 18, 1985. He was also predeceased by five sisters, Lucille Bruce, Frances Abbott, Mildred Robinson, Virginia Kemp and Polly Somers.
