Harry Edward Ackerman, 76, died Friday, July 9, 2004.

Born Sept. 2, 1927, in Jacksonville, Fla., he was the son of the late George Oliver Ackerman and Bertha Moree Ackerman. He was married to Lavonia Marshall Ackerman. He was a Caskey Insurance Co. retiree and a member of the Lion's Club, American Legion Post 31 and St. Luke United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include, his wife of the home; a son, Edward Layton Ackerman and his wife, Pamela of Lancaster; a daughter, Karen Ackerman Martin and her husband, Charles of Lancaster; three sisters, Gloria Ferraro, Earlene Godwin and Louise Smith, all of Harlem, Ga.; four grandchildren, Aaron E. Ackerman, Katie, Leigh-Ann and Kristen Martin and his stepmother, Irene Ackerman of Harlem, Ga.

Services will be 4 p.m. today at St. Luke United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mike Smith, with burial in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 128 Providence Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Hartley Funeral home is in charge.
