Arlene Joan Aafedt, 79, of Great Falls, died of natural causes Wednesday at her home. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on her birthday.

Her funeral is 2 p.m. Sunday at Croxford Funeral Home, with burial at 10 a.m. Monday in Highland Cemetery.

She was born March 3, 1931 in Great Falls, and grew up with her sister Lois in Canada. In 1948, she moved to Great Falls and attended commercial college. She met Ole Aafedt and they were married on Christmas Eve in 1950.

They had two children, Bruce Aafedt and Shelly Stelling, both of Great Falls; five grandchildren: David Stelling, Joseph Stelling, Ryan Aafedt, Cory Aafedt and Andrew Aafedt; four great-grandchildren: Dominic, Damien and Tyler Stelling, and Nathaniel Aafedt; and a sister, Lois (Stan) Wardinsky, of Great Falls.

Arlene was a very talented seamstress. She enjoyed ceramics and all types of crafts. She was also a very talented and accomplished artist in watercolor and oil. She worked at Woolworths on Central Avenue in Great Falls, and then raised her children. She later was a cake decorator at the Dairy Queen on 10th Avenue South in Great Falls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ole Aafedt, on Nov. 27, 2000.
