James Colvin O'Donnell 86 died at the Chester County Hospital Friday morning
after a short illness.
Funeral services were held at 3pm Saturday in the chapel of Barron's Funeral
Home with the Rev. Wiliam Royall Bussey in charge, assited by the Rev. C. L.
Whitmore, pastor of the Woodward Baptist Church and Dr. E. E. Colvin, pastor of the Emmanuel
Baptist Church of Florence. Burial was in the family plot at Woodward Baptist Church near
Chester.
Mr. O'Donnell was a native of Chester County and was a son of the late Elizabeth Wright
O'Donnell and Thomas O'Donnell. He was born in July 1871, and was a member of the First Batpist
Church of Chester.
He was formerly active in the Knights of Pythias and was a retired farmer, until his health failed he
was active in civic and church affairs.
He married Miss Margaret Francis Colvin who died several years ago. Fourteen children were born
to the couple, nine of whom survive.
Survivors include nine daughters: Mrs. D. Euta Colvin, Mrs. John Guy Colvin and Mrs. John. L.
Huey, all of Chester; Mrs. Sam Grant, Mrs. Charlie M. Parrott and Mrs. Carl Davis all of Charlotte;
Mrs. Robert H. Westbrook of Edgemoor; Mrs. Frank E. Abell of Lowrys and Mrs. C. Dillard Gibson
of Charleston; 25 grandchildre; and 18 great grandchildren.
