CHILDERSBURG - Funeral service for Judith E. Abbott, 78, will be Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church in Harpersville with the Rev. William Rayfield officiating. Burial will follow in Harpersville Cemetery. Mrs. Abbott died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at Goodwater Healthcare. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Chester Abbott; parents, Tom and Mamie Whaley; brothers, Thomas Whaley and John Whaley; and sister, Jewell Abbott. She is survived by a son, Kerry Abbott and wife, Pat of Decatur; daughters, Dianne Smelley and husband Floyd, Debra Haywood and husband Mike, and Lisa Lee and husband Larry all of Childersburg; grandchildren, Brian Smelley and wife Veronnica of Irmo, S.C., Tonya Gonzalez and husband Javier of Decatur, Jason Smelley and wife Lauri of Woodstock, Ga., Chad Abbott and wife Lisa of Decatur, and Jud Lee of Childersburg; great-grandchildren, Courtney, Railey, Jordan, Vivien Leigh, Emily Grace, and Jack Wade; brother, Tommy Whaley of Atlanta; and sisters, L.E. Burleson of Rockford, Ill., and Shirley Simpson of Columbus, Ga. Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 4:30-8 p.m. at the church. Pallbearers will be Brian Smelley, Jason Smelley, Chad Abbott, Jackie Harris, Garry Lee and Ronald Abbott. Memorial messages may be sent to the family at www.radneysmith.com.
