"John Aarnink, 86 years old, 2454 South Seventh Street, died at 4 o'clock yesterday morning at St. Anthony's Hospital. He was a member of Zion Reform Church at Poland. Surviving are the widow, Mrs Mary Nolte Aarnink; a daughter, Mrs. Iva Bruner of Terre Haute; four sons, Charles, Clifford, Leroy, and Leverett Aarnink, all of Terre Haute; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. The body was taken to the H.P. Martin Funeral Home where services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon, the Rev. Harvey S. Shue officiating. Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery."

John was the son of Geerd and Mary Elizabeth Huckriede Aarnink who imigrated to the U.S. in 1852 and were married in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1869 they moved westward to Poland Indiana in Clay County near Terre Haute. They are interred at Zion United Church of Christ (formerly German Lutheran Reformed church) in Poland.

In 1930 John worked in maintenance at Allendale Country Club (census).
