Florence Aaby (nee Gundersgaard), age 94 of Lake Station passed away Monday, April 5, 2010.
She worked at Inland Steel during World War II and also for L. Stendahl & Son Home Builders as a Secretary and Bookkeeper.
Florence was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, the V.F.W. Post #5365 Ladies Auxiliary, the Hobart Eagles #2498, and a longtime member of the American Legion Post #100 Ladies Auxiliary where she served as President for 4 years.
She was a past member and district officer of the Mothers of World War II Unit 21 and the American Legion Post #279 of Miller where she served for 4 years as President.
Florence is survived by her son, Lyle (Janice) Umlauft of Sheboygan, Wisconsin and her daughters, Lillian Cooper of Lake Station, Indiana, Shirley Umlauft of Miami, Florida, Barbara Wilhelm of Hobart, Indiana; 1 sister, Esther (Gary) Vollrath of Marshfield, Wisconsin; and 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Vilie Gundersgaard; husband, Ervin Aaby; ex-husband, Floyd Umlauft; 2 grandsons, Michael and David; 5 brothers, Earl, Fred, Ted, Lester, and Lyle; and 2 sisters, Helen and Grace.
Visitation is Thursday, April 8, 2010 from 2 p.m. to 4p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with VFW/American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Service at 7 p.m. Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
Funeral Services are Friday, April 9, 2010 at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Rev. Charles R. Strietelmeier officiating.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage.
