Alonzo Glenister (Glenn) Adams, 89, the son of Evert James and Della May (Bruner) Adams, was born November 8, 1907 in a dugout on his Mother's homestead northwest of Buffalo and departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday, January 15, 1997 in the Western Nursing Home, Buffalo.
Glenn lived all his life in Harper County. He attended the Union Center Country School, graduated from the Buffalo High School with the Class of 1928 and attended Business College in Wichita, Kansas. He then returned to Buffalo and entered into farming business with his father and his brothers.
On August 1, 1931, at Buffalo, Glenn and Ruby Ileen Messinger were united in marriage. Together they owned and operated Adams Grocery until 1938 when they moved to the farm 14 miles northwest of Buffalo. In 1951, Glenn and Ileen became parents to their only child, Michael Glenn.
Glenn raised cattle, wheat and horses and operated a custom harvesting business for many years until his retirement in 1982, then passing it on to his son, Mike.
Glenn had a love of the outdoors. He enjoyed trout fishing in Colorado and had a real passion for hunting and spent many crisp autumn mornings hunting quail, a gift he passed on to Mike. But one of his greatest interests were his granddaughters, Michelle and Kara. He played a very active part in their lives as they were growing up. Glenn enjoyed many memorable times with Mike and other family members until his health prevented him from doing so. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Buffalo.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ileen, August 3, 1989, his parents; 3 brothers Lee, Vernon and James and one sister, Lela Adams Booth.
Glenn leaves as his survivors his son, Mike and wife, Nancy, of Buffalo; his granddaughters, Michelle and Husband, Steven Sanders of Woodward; and Kara Adams, a Senior at Buffalo High School; one step-grandson, Nevin Terry of Oklahoma City; one great-grandson, Michael Sanders, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were Friday, January 17, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Christian Church, Buffalo, with the pastor, David Massey, officiating. Shirley Mills was organist and accompanied Jackie Johnson as she sang "Amazing Grace" and "Rock of Ages", and Arvid and Roxanna Greenlee as they sang "Precious Memories". Pallbearers were Dierk Reynolds, Grey Adams, Steven Sanders and Howard Olmstead. Honorary bearers were Leland Robertson, Murl Thrasher, Carl Freeman, Bill Olmstead, Don Adams, Sydney Malt, Wallace Howard, E.J. Adams, Jack Stout and Bill Bishop. Internment was in the High Point Cemetery, Buffalo, under direction of Seeger Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Buffalo High School Alumni Scholarship Fund or the First Christian Church.
