J. M. Adkisson, died at home on Sat.; longtime hardware man, former Alderman and active churchman buried today. Death came Sat. for James M. Adkisson, aged 66, prominent Columbian for many years in the hardware business here. Mr. Adkisson, who had been in ill health for many months, succumbed at 11:15 p.m. at his home in Highland Park. Born and reared in this county, he first engaged in farming in the Bigbyville community, before coming to Columbia to be connected with the hardware firm of Jim Andrews, Jr. Then for 20 years, until Jan. of this year, when ill health forced his retirement, he was with the Porter-Walker Hardware Co. Mr. Adkisson was an active member of the First Methodist Church. He served Columbia for a time as alderman and was always interested in civic and religious affairs. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Agnes Matthews Adkisson, his wife, the former Miss Nancy Bingham, whom he married Nov. 14, 1889, and by one son, James B. Adkisson. A sister, Mrs. F. C. Abernathy of Columbia also survives. Funeral services held at the First Methodist Church here this morning.
