Miss Lou Rae Abbott, of Republican Grove, died Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the Woodview. She was born in Halifax County on Jan. 3, 1927, and was 83 years old. She was the daughter of the late Joel Thomas Abbott and Alice Hubbard Abbott. She was a member of the Republican Grove United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one sister, Katie Lee Abbott Chappell, of Halifax, and many nieces and nephews, including Betty Jo Dawson, of Republican Grove, and Dana Barksdale, of Brookneal.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lona Mae Davis and Helen Abbott, and three brothers, Lowman Abbott, JT Abbott and Dickie Abbott.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the Republican Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Shelton Miles and the Rev. Charles Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Abbott Family Cemetery at Republican Grove. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the service at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Republican Grove United Methodist Church.
