Tobias O. Midboe Was Pioneer Here A well-known former resident of the Hatton community, Tobias O. Midboe, eldest sons of the late Ole and Maren Midboe, passed away October 3 at the age of 83 years. He was born in Newburgh Township on August 15, 1878 and attended public school in Newburgh Township, Bruflat Academy at Portland, N.Dak. and normal school at Madison, Minn. He grew to manhood and in 1915 was united in marriage to Margit Sondreaal of Hatton. To this union were born six children, Engebret O. of Arlington, Va., Melvin C. of Morris, Minn., Dr. Gilbert T. of Forest Lake, Minn., Mrs. Paul (Anna) Kovakovich of Eveleth, Minn., Cora of St. Paul and Mrs. William (Gladys) Des Saint of Minneapolis. Mr. Midboe was engaged in farming in Newburgh Township and taught parochial school for many years. He was an active member of Goose River Lutheran Church and served as Sunday School superintendent for some 30 years, choir director and song leader as well as in other church functions. He participated in affairs of local government as a township supervisor, school board director and justice of the peace. Since 1945, Mr. Midboe had made his home in Minneapolis and St. Paul. After a short illness he passed away at Chisago Lakes Hospital at Chisago City, Minn.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Margit; 6 children; 17 grandchildren; one brother, Tollef Midtbo of Hatton and one sister, Inger Midboe of Northwood. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Torger and Halvor, and three sisters, Mrs. John (Oline) Aaland, Mrs. Aslak (Sophia) Nordbo and Sigrid.

Interment was October 7 at the Goose River Lutheran Church cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C.J. Field with special messages extended by Rev. S.H. Njaa on behalf of the Northwood Deaconess Hospital and Home, and by Rev. E.O. Midboe of Arlington, Va. on behalf of the family. A message from E. Roald Carlson of Immanuel Lutheran Church of St. Paul, who had been Mr. Midboe's pastor was read. Special music was furnished by the Goose River Ladies Trio and a duet by Pastor and Mrs. Field. Honorary pallbearers were W.L. Thompson, J.L. Thompson, Martin Groth, Andrew Lerol, Conrad Berg, Alfred Berg, O.B. Pladson and S.O. Pladson. Active pallbearers were Olaf Nordbo, Olaf Midtbo, Otto Aaland, Rueben Sondreaal, Osten H. Pladson and Carl Midboe. Funeral arrangements were by Mattson Funeral Home of Forest Lake, Minn.
