Octogenarian Dies at Vermillion Home; Funeral to Be Today

~~Vermillion, S. D.--Special; Funeral services will be held Tuesday at St. Agnes Catholic church here for Julius Bertrand, 81, who died at his home Sunday after a long illness. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.

~~Mr. Bertrand was born June 1, 1869, in Illinois. He lived many years in Kansas and for 10 years in Vermillion. He retired 13 years ago from farming.

~~He married Mederise Trahan September 13, 1892, at St. Joseph, Kan. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this year.

~~Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Lauren Adamson of Centerville and Mrs. Clifford Johnson of Vermillion; five sons, Napoleon of Sioux City, Fred of Vermillion, Edward of Mankato, Minn., Leonard of Centerville and Albert of Scotland, SD; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Forgue of Bourbonnaie, Ill., and Mrs. John Harnois of Delphos, Kan.; a brother William of Clay Center, Kan.; 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

JULIUS BERTRAND SERVICES HELD LAST TUESDAY

~~Funeral services were held Tuesday in the St. Agnes Catholic church here for Julius Bertrand, 81, who died in his home early Sunday morning following a long illness. Father Hugh K. Wolf officiated at the service. Burial was in Calvary cemetery under direction of the Elmore-Wagner funeral service.

~~Julius Bertrand was born on June 1, 1869 in Illinois, He spent the greater part of his life in Kansas and had resided in Vermillion for 10 years. He was retired having been interested in farming.

~~He married Mederise Trahan on September 13, 1892 in St. Joseph, Kansas. The couple celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this year.......
