COLEEN C. EDDS

Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident, Coleen C. Edds will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 8 at Cortez First United Methodist Church with Pastor Al Strauss officiating. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery.

Coleen Cecilia Rosetta was born on August 31, 1933 in Osage City, Kans. to Humbert and Grace Rosetta. She passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at her home surrounded by family at her bedside.

Coleen married Donald B. Edds on June 16, 1951. Together they raised five children in Hoisington, Kans. They moved to Cortez in 1980.

Coleen loved the Lord and brought up her children to know and love the Lord. She enjoyed bible study groups and scripture. Almost without fail she read from her daily devotional "The Upper Room". She has been a member of the First United Methodist Church for 28 years and a faithful choir member for 26 years. Coleen shared her discipleship for the Lord through Christian Women's Club, United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary, Emblem Club, Methodist Thrift Store, and countless other ways within the community. In her free time, Coleen enjoyed crocheting, baking, gardening, dancing, singing, traveling and playing cards.

In January 2007 Coleen began a courageous battle having been diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer. She never gave up hope – the love of family, friends, church family, and neighbors carried her through along with the faith she had in her doctors and the Lord.

She will be remembered and thought of often as wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandma, friend, neighbor and faithful servant of the Lord.

Surviving Coleen are her sons, Ken Edds and wife, Jackie of Baton Rouge, La., Randy Edds and wife, Cathy and their sons, Jeffrey and Tanner of Chandler, Ariz., Mike Edds of Mesa, Ariz., and Don Edds of Des Moines, Iowa; and by her daughter, Janie Gabardi and granddaughter, Angela of Cortez. Coleen is also survived by her brothers, Humbert Rosetta and wife, Darlene of Osage City, Kans., Larry Rosetta and wife, Erma of Topeka, Kans., and Dick Rosetta and wife, Susan of Murray, Utah; by her sister, Delores Anstaett of Lyndon, Kans.; sisters-in-law, Barbara Edds of Topeka, Kans., Shirley Winchester of Las Vegas, Nev. and Margaret Keen of Plymouth, Minn.; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Coleen was preceded in death by her parents, Humbert and Grace Rosetta; her husband, Don Edds; brother, Don Rosetta; and sister, Rosalie Wolleson.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Coleen Edds with Hospice of Montezuma, PO Box 740, Cortez.
