Mr. Martin William Aalto, 84, of LaGrange passed away Tuesday June 8, 2010, at LaGrange Nursing and Rehab. Mr. Aalto was born April 3, 1926, in Grand Rapids, MN, son of the late Eino and Hilja Pietikainen Aalto. He was owner of Aalto Athletics and a United States Army veteran, serving during World War II. Mr. Aalto was affectionately known as "Uncle Marty" by the children to whom he ministered.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Swanson Aalto; son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Sabrina Aalto; daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Dann Child, all of LaGrange; grandchildren and spouses, Chris Child, Daniel Child and his fiancé, Jordan Pitts, Kevin and Heather Aalto, Angela and Michael Seymour and Stefanie and Justin Whaley; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lillian Thies, Ruth Sharp, Mildred Lofghren; and brother, Joe Aalto. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helmie Wanieo; and a brother, Lester Aalto.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Restlawn Memory Gardens with Rev Richard Clinard officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this (Thursday) evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
