Loyl Achterberg
Loyl Achterberg, 85, died Sept. 23,2003. He was born March 5, 1918, to Herman and Christine (Holl) Achterberg.
He was a farmer, builder and blacksmith. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, George and Wilbur, and a sister, Leona Aufdemberge.
Survivors include his wife, Melva, of the home; two sons, Marvin and wife Patricia, Wheat Ridge, Colo., and Duane and his wife Linda, Hays; a daughter, Donna Achterberg, Salina; a sister, Della Lohmann, Lincoln; a sister-in-law, Christine Achterberg, Hays; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Memorial services were held Sept. 27, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Burial followed at St. John’s Cemetery.
