Lenore P. Bruckner
TOPEKA - Former Emporian Mrs. William R. Bruckner, 84, of Topeka, died Sept. 8, 1994, in her home. Mrs. Bruckner, her husband and family owned and operated Bruckner's Store for Men and Poole's Department Store in Emporia for many years.

Lenore Pole, the daughter of James A. and Blanche Fellers Poole, was born Oct. 14, 1909, at Lamar, Mo. She and her family moved to Emporia in 1929. She attended the College of Emporia for one year, then transferred to Washburn University where she graduated cum laude in 1931 with a degree in Spanish.

She married William R. Bruckner on Nov. 15, 1931, at Emporia. He died in 1973.

Mrs. Bruckner was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist and the Mother Church in Boston, and in Emporia she was a member of the Church of Christ Scientist. She was past president of the Women's City Club, Chapter DI of the PEO, Social Service Club, Junto Study Club, all in Emporia, and a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, honorary music fraternity at Emporia State University and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority at Washburn. She served on the city library , the Friends of Art and the Y.W.C.A. when the building was converted to the Community Center. She also gave book reviews for organizations in Emporia, was program chairman for Emporia Entertainment Series and had a weekly 15-minute television program called "Conversation Piece." She was named The Gazette's "Woman of the Week" in November 1968. In Topeka, Mrs. Bruckner was a member of Friends of the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, the PEO Sisterhood and Civic Newcomers.

She is survived by two daughters, Paula Peterson of Topeka and Brenda Casey of Guilford, Conn.; and four grandchildren.

Private family services were conducted in Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home at Topeka. Burial was in Memorial Lawn Cemetery at Emporia.
