"In Memoriam"
John G. Adam
John G. Adam was born at Henderson, Minnesota, August 26, 1867. When he was ten years old he moved with his parents to New Ulm, Minn., and at the age of about twenty-one, went to St. Paul, Minn. He was married to Teckla Schadegg on Feb. 16, 1892. A year later the young couple came to Tipton, Kansas, and farmed there until 1900, when they moved to a farm two miles east of Plainville, which they still own. In 1938, Mr. and Mrs. Adam retired and moved into town. In November of 1944, Mr. Adam suffered two strokes which left him paralyzed. Since January 27 his condition has grown steadily worse. On March 5, he was admitted to St. Anthony's hospital in Hays, but was dismissed on March 10. On March 18, 1950, at about 5:15 p.m. he passed away quietly and peacefully to his eternal reward, fortified with all the rites of the Holy Catholic Church, of which he was a lifelong member. Funeral services were held from Sacred Heart Church at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21. The Rev. Fr. Daniel Mulvihill offered the Requiem High Mass at which six of Mr. Adam's grandchildren served as acolytes. They were Edwin Schrandt, Johnny Adam, Howard Garvert, Marvin Hake, Leland Adam, and Jimmy Ellenz. Six of the grandchildren also served as pallbearers, namely: Alfred Becker, Norbert Hake, Louis Becker, Charles Adam, Bill Ellenz, and Alvin Schrandt. Left to mourn the deceased, are his devoted wife and nine children: Martha Hake, Ben, Pauline Becker, Susie Garvert, Catherine Schrandt, Tony, all of Plainville, Kans., Sister Rose Gertrude, Concorida, Kans., Anna Ellenz, Tipton, Kans., and Isabel Klausner, Wichita, Kans.; sixty four grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and one brother, Louis Adam.
