Airman Second Class Bennett was one of 87
killed aboard C-124 Globemaster II
#50-0100 when the transport crashed on
liftoff from Larson Air Force Base,
Moses Lake, Washington.
It was the deadliest aviation accident in
history at that time. The airplane was
departing for Kelly Air Force Base in
San Antonio, during "Operation Sleigh Ride"
to take military personnel and some
family members home for Christmas during
the Korean War.
