Eddie H. Abernathy, Sr., age 90 of Rogersville, died Friday, November 21, 2008 at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
He was a member of Rogersville First United Methodist Church. Mr. Abernathy was retired director for the Hawkins County Health Department after 44 years of service. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army stationed in Australia as a pharmacist.
Mr. Abernathy was preceded in death by his parents, Sterling and Eloise Abernathy, his son-in-law, Dale Jarrett and grandson Jacob Jarrett.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jeanette Abernathy (married Oct.21, 1950), two daughters, Diana Lynn Venable and husband, Dale of Rogersville, Sharon K. Jarrett of Johnson City; son, Dr. Eddie H. Abernathy, Jr. of Rogersville; grandchildren, Allison Venable, Jessica Jarrett, Brett and Lance Abernathy, and Lisa Burgess; great grandchildren, Evan Venable Goins, Christopher, Brandon and Bailey Burgess; one brother, Sterling Abernathy of Rancho Cordova, California; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were November 23, 2008 at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville. Funeral service was conducted November 23, 2008 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gerald Jones officiating. Graveside service was November 24, 2008 in Highland Cemetery.
