ASHBY
Mae Linna Ashby was born in Marion County, August 27, 1890, and passed away July 21, 1985, at Chariton Manor where she had resided the last three weeks.
She was the daughter of William and Viola Smith Holder.
Mae was united in marriage to Schuyler W. Ashby March 6, 1915. To this union two daughters were born, Marlene White of Chariton, and Lucille Stierwalt, of Lacona, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters, her husband, Schuyler, and two great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Marlene and Lucille, sons-in-law, Kenneth White and Ronald Stierwalt, four grandchildren, Roger Stierwalt, of Lacona, Iowa, Lila Ruch, of Indianola, Iowa, Marlin White, of Chariton, Iowa, and Linda Halden, of Grinnell.; nine great-grandchildren, Mark White, Tim White, and Kevin White, all of Chariton, Heidi Halden Moore, of Omaha, Jay Halden, Kent Halden of Grinnell, Bradley Stierwalt and Wesley Stierwalt of Lacona, and Karla Ruch Bingham, of Dallas, Iowa; four great-great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Gladys Chappell and Zella Ashby.
Mae and her husband spent most of their lives in Lucas and Marion Counties engaged in farming, later moving into Chariton in 1945, where she remained until her death.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and will be missed by several nieces, nephews and friends.
Services were held Wednesday, July 24, 1985, at the Fielding Funeral Home. The Rev. Fred Borger conducted the services. Bearers were Tim White, Mark White, Jay Halden, Kevin White, Roger Stierwalt and Bradley Stierwalt. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Senior Citizen's Center or the Methodist Church.
