Bernt (Berndt) Aasheim was born to Lars B. Aasheim and Britta S. Millie on August 31, 1875. He married Mamie Orstad, daughter of Huldor Orstad, another early pioneer, on May 10, 1905. Mamie was born September 29, 1886.
Berndt farmed with horses all his life and instilled in his family the love of farming. Farming was hard manual labor in those days. The only way to gather the corn crop was to pick it by hand: a job that lasted weeks in cold miserable weather. Mamie like most other farmers wives worked long hours baking her own bread on a wood burning stove, raising chickens and gardening to supplement the families food.
Berndt and Mamie's children are Hazel Enebo, Bernice Ormseth Loftess, LeRoy, Milford, Oscar, Eleanor Anderson, Harlan and Elsie Severson. All the children attended Highland Center School and the family were members of Lands Lutheran Church.
