Curtis Orville Aaland, age 81, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs, went to be with this Lord on September 3, 2010.
Curtis was born on January 2, 1929 in Oldham, SD to Christopher and Ruth Aaland and had 7 sisters and 2 brothers. After growing up on a farm in Carthage, SD, he served in the United States Army (4th Infantry Regiment) from 1950-52, where he achieved the rank of Corporal.
In June 1953, he moved to Colorado Springs, where he married the love of his life, Darlene Walker in Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Curtis built many custom homes in the Colorado Springs area until his retirement. He enjoyed piloting a private plane, the outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.
Curtis was a devoted member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, and the Sons of Norway Fjellheim Lodge. He will be remembered for his steadfast faith in Christ, loving devotion to his family, his honest and kind nature, and awesome sense of humor.
Curtis will be cherished by all who knew him and especially by his beloved wife, Darlene; son John Aaland (wife Sharon), daughters Joan Dacus (husband Byron), Rae Marie Aaland (husband Les Roth), and Robin Brown (husband Mike); grandchildren, Angela Calloura (husband Tony), Morning Star Coyhis, Kateri Vergez (husband Brian), Kirsten Aaland, Kevin Aaland (fiance' Marilyn), Landon Brown, and great grandchildren, Alora Aaland, Kayla Dobson, Daniel and Anthony Calloura. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Ellen Shanks and Arlen Zapp and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be from 12-3pm on Sunday, Sept 5, 2010 at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, Sept 7, at 3pm, at the Shrine of Remembrance. On Wednesday, Curtis will be laid to rest in Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO after a private ceremony.
