Carol Ann (Nailor) Abate, 75, of 48 Birch Lane, Williamstown, died peacefully at her home while surrounded by her family on Friday, September 10, 2010 after a long, courageous battle with Lewy Body Disease.

Born May 6, 1935 in Cohoes, New York to Leo and Loretta (Murray) Nailor.

Carol graduated from Heatly High School, Green Island, NY and attended Southern Vermont College in Bennington, VT. She was the widow of Victor Abate, who passed away on October 22, 1986.

Carol devoted her life to her family, her friends and to her church, where she was heavily involved in the choir, parish council and annual festival.

Carol enjoyed performing as a Sweet Adeline for many years. She exhibited strength and grace in the face of adversity. Her faith in God and family carried her through her debilitating illness. As a mother and a friend, she was always very wise, especially when it came to matters of the heart.

Carol is survived by five daughters: Deborah (James) Cameron of Williamstown, Judith (Richard) Stratton of Shaftsbury, VT; Linda (Michael) Ludwig of Adams, Vickey Abate (Phil Dwyer) of Green Island, NY; Ellen (John) Richardson of Adams and one son: Victor (Karen) Abate of Saratoga Springs, NY; sixteen grandchildren: James Cameron Jr., Ryan Cameron, Adam Cameron, Jessica Moore, Christa Bleau, Sarah Harris, Katelyn Ludwig, Stephanie Roy, Michael Ludwig, Victor Abate IV, Brittany Abate, Nicholas Abate, Samantha Abate, Corbin Richardson, Lydia Richardson, Austin Richardson; two step-grandchildren: Sarah and Molly Stratton; five great-grandchildren: Justin Cameron; Madelyn Cameron; Aiden Moore; Reilly Moore; Savannah Bleau. She also leaves a sister Mary Pollock of Troy, NY and is predeceased by her brother William Nailor and her sister Loretta Galarneau.

Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main Street, North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in St.'s Patrick & Raphael Church in Williamstown at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will follow in the family plot in Eastlawn Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
