Mrs. Gill Grossnickle died at her home in this city last Sunday afternoon, February 17th, 1918, aged 80 years, 5 months and 7 days. Her demise was the result of a couple of strokes of paralysis, from which she was bedfast only a few days.
Sarah Griggs was born in Napoleon, Indiana, on September 9th, 1837. When she was twelve years old the family moved to Agency City, Iowa.
In 1856 she was united in marriage to Gillian Grossnickle, and from that time until 1870 they lived in Des Moines, Iowa. In that year they moved to Kansas and located on a farm southwest of Onaga where they reside until a few years ago when they moved to this city. The fruits of this union were seven children-three boys and four girls, all of whom survive, and are as follows: Seth, Clara Grossnickle. All of this city, Miss Maggie Grossnickle , residing south of Wheaton, Miss Amy Grossnickle now teaching in Montana, Sidney Grossnickle, residing south of Wheaton, and Sam Grossnickle, of Kansas City. All were present at the funeral services. Two sons, Franklin and James Edward, died in infancy. The husband and father, passed to the Great Beyond in 1914.
The deceased united with the Presbyterian church in her youth, and after coming to Onaga united with the Congregational church of which she was a member at the time of her death. She was a kind and devoted mother, a good neighbor, and her children and mad many friends may truly "rise and call her blessed." The bereft children have the sympathy of the entire community.
Funeral services were held at the Congregational church Wednesday afternoon conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. M. Good, and interment was given in the Onaga cemetery.
