George A. Beckman, Jr., son of George Beckman, Sr., and Mary Beckman died Feb. 19, 1969 at St. Joseph's hospital, Cheyenne Wells, Colo., at the age of 80 years, 3 months and 11 days.
He was born Nov. 8, 1888 in the Angelus community.
He was united in marriage to Ruby Rickley Jan. 2, 1914, in St. Paul's Church, Angelus.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby; 5 sons: Raymond, Durwood, Harold, Gerald and Cletus; one daughter Mrs. Vincent Dickman; one foster son, Eddie Struckhoff; 28 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers- John and Frank; 5 sisters: Mrs. Anna Albers, Rosa Carson, Elizabeth Johnston, Veronica Albers and Agnes Embree; 2 sister-in-laws: Mabel Huff and Myrtle Tanner, and a host of other relatives and friends.
One daughter, LaVonne preceded him in death in 1933 and a son Donald in 1938.
Services were officiated by Rev. Joseph Scheetz in St. Joseph's church, Oakley; his final resting place was at St. Paul's Cemetery, Angelus.
Six of his grandchildren were his casket bearers: Reginald, Donald, Michael, Robert, Joseph Beckman and Linus Heier.
Honorary casket bearers were: Alex Baalman, John Moellering, John H. Dickman, Francis Robben Sr., Herman J. Dickman, Frank Scheetz.
George's father was one of the original homesteaders of the Angelus Community, arriving in 1887 from Illinois, via of Clay Center, Ks.
He was one of the first children born in the Angelus community, attended schools there, and spent most of his earlier life in that vicinity.
From 1931-1933 he and his family lived in Longmont, Colo. In 1947-1948, he and Mrs. Beckman spent two years traveling the United States. On their return they purchased a home in Oakley and he spent his remaining life there.
He served on the Solomon Township board in Sheridan County. He was a honorary lifetime member of the Angelus Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Joseph's parish, Oakley.
