At quartzburg, Boise County, Idaho, Thursday night, Mar 6, 1886, of chronic
bronchitis, Hon. R.G. Allen, aged fifty seven years.
The funeral was held at Quartzburg, March 6th and was largely attended, despite
the bad conditions of the roads. C.S. Kingsley conducted the services, and paid
a deservedly high tribute to the social and moral worth of the deceased. Major
Allen was born in old Virginia. but had long resided on the Pacific coast.
first in California and then in Idaho; having at the time of his death, been a
resident of Boise County for more than twenty years. He had served one term in
the Legislature of California, two terms in the legislature of Idaho, and one
term as commissioner of Boise county. He had also, for many years, been engaged
in the mercantile business at quartzburg and was also postmaster and agent of
Wells, Fargo & co. at that place. Deceased was a true gentleman a man of a high
sense of honor, of the strictest integrity, a good citizen in all the relations
of life, whose death will be lamented by all who had a personal acquaintance
with him. He was buried at Placerville.
