James Turner, commonly known as Uncle Jimmy Turner, one of the oldest men in our county and perhaps the oldest resident of this county, died last Friday after a short illness. The remains were buried Sunday, the funeral being one of the largest ever seen. Mr. Turner was in his 88th year. He was born in Virginia where he married. He afterwards moved to Tennessee and still later in 1830, to Effingham county, settling on the farm on which he resided at his death. His son, Henry, born in this county, in 1830, died one week before his father. Mr. Turner reared a large family, all of whom are well and honorably known. In his death Effingham County loses a good citizen and one of its oldest landmarks. Peace to this honorable patriarch's ashes. Effingham Democrat - 10 Feb 1888
