Clemeth A. Abercrombie
A private memorial service for Clemeth A. Abercrombie, 79, of Lawrence will be held at a later date. Mr. Abercrombie died Friday, July 23, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Alzheimers disease. Clemeth was born January 11, 1925 in Barnard, Kan. The son of Clemeth C. and Etta (Blanding) Abercrombie. Mr. Abercrombie joined the U.S. Army in 1943. He was stationed at Purdue University for one semester and then deployed to Europe with the 407th regiment of the 102nd Infantry Division serving in Belgium, France, Germany and The Netherlands.
He was a graduate of the American Bankers Association School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He was president of Barnard State Bank and Citizens National Bank in Minneapolis Kan. which he later merged with Ottawa County Bank. Abercrombie was very active in civic and community development. He retired in April 1989. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Hot Springs Village and returned to Lawrence in 2000.
Clemeth married Barbarara Meyer on November 2, 1950 in Lincoln, Kan. She survives of the home. Also surviving are two sons, C.R. Abercrombie and his wife Lila, of Wilson, Kan; John Abercrombie and his wife Sue, of Portland, Ore; two grandchildren, Clemeth L. Abercrombie and Callie Abercrombie; and one sister, Ruth Pickrell of Salina, Kan.
The family suggests contributions to the Wilson Community Foundation or to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Association Care Fund or Employ Education Fund or the Charity of Donor’s Choice and may be sent in care of Warren McElwain Mortuary.
