Rev. Troy Acree, 84, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away October 12, 2010, at Union General Hospital in Blairsville, Georgia.
Troy was born in Gordon County, Georgia, the tenth son of the late Dr. Marvin and Webbie Hudgins Acree. He was a retired Baptist minister, having served churches in Kentucky and Hartwell, Cumming, Douglasville, and Newnan, Georgia. He served as Mountain Area Missionary for the Georgia Baptist Convention and in several interim pastorates. Troy was a World War II veteran, U.S. Army 100th Infantry Division, and served in the European Theater. He was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church, an active Mason for over 50 years, a member of Allegheny Lodge #114, and a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club. Troy was preceded in death by his much beloved wife, Renva Smith Acree.
He is survived by his four children, Wanda (Doug) Greene of Forrestburg, Texas; Allen T. (Elaine) Acree, Jr., Marc (Charis) Acree of LaGrange, Georgia; and Penny A. (Michael) Hood of Villa Rica, Georgia; brother, Marvin (Retta) Acree of Covington, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Fletcher P. Acree of Luthersville, Georgia, and Sara Acree of Hiawassee, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Stephen Greene, Benjamin Greene, Rachel Reagan, Patrick Reagan, Esta A. Busby, Marisa Acree, and Claire Acree; two great-grandchildren, Martha and Theo Greene.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 16, 2010, from McConnell Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy McAdams and Rev. Doug Merck officiating. Interment followed in Osborn Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites provided by the Masons.
