COURIER JOURNAL OBITUARY – 07/07/1955
G. C. SPALDING, FOR 20 YEARS MARION COUNTY OFFICIAL, DIES - LEBANON, KY JULY 6. G. Clarence Spalding, 75, who served 20 years as a Marion County public official, died at 1:50 a.m. today in Mary Immaculate Hospital here. He had been a patient there three weeks and two weeks ago underwent surgery. He served two terms as County judge, from 1934 to 1938, and from 1942 to 1946, and two terms as sheriff, from 1922 to 1926 and from 1930 to 1934. His first public office was as a magistrate from 1914 to 1918. Then he served four years as a deputy sheriff. Early in life he was a farmer and between terms as County judge he was in the insurance business here. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edna Abell Spalding; three daughters, Mrs. Charles Robert Mudd, Marion County; Mrs. Henry Boldrick, Lebanon, wife of the Marion County attorney; and Mrs. Len Spalding, Springfield; a son, Aaron Spalding, former sheriff of Marion County; a sister, Mrs. Lena Abell, Calvary; and two brothers, J.N. Spalding, Lebanon; and Martin John Spalding, Dayton, Oh. The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church here. The body is at Bosley Funeral Home.
