Billy Asberry Abner, 81, of Winder died October 30, 2010. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Smith Memory Chapel. Interment in Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. WINDER - Billy Asberry Abner, 81, went to be with his Lord Saturday, October 30, 2010.
Billy was born December 18, 1928, in the Cedar Hill Community of Winder and was a lifelong resident of Winder, Barrow County, Georgia. He was the son of the late Lucius Preston Abner and Elmer Stancil Abner. Billy graduated from high school in Winder. He then served in the United States Army in Tokyo, Japan, October 1946 – February 1948. He returned to Winder and went to work for Southern Waistbands & Threads, Inc. where he retired. He was an active member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church.
Billy loved playing his guitars and singing. He shared it often at his church and especially enjoyed playing for the patients in the area nursing homes.
Mr. Abner was also preceded in death by a sister Lura Lee A. Cronic, Winder; and L. Pharr Abner, Winter Park, Fla. Billy loved the Lord, his family, his church and his community, loved ones stated.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Larry Hunt; grandchildren, April and husband Dwayne Tuggle, Angie Hunt; great-grandchildren, Shana and Wyatt Tuggle and Elias Hunt, all of Winder; two sisters, Flora and husband Billy Shedd and Barbara and husband Richard Bowen, all of Winder; five nephews and two nieces, all very near and dear to him.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 4, at 11 a.m., from Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Whitehead and Minister Linwood Smith officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Winder. Friends and relatives are invited to Smith Funeral Home Wednesday, November 3, from 5 to 9 p.m. for viewing and visitation with the family.
