Thomas Galtress, 98, widower of Ida Raiford Galtress, died Feb. 13, 2006, at Southampton Memorial Hospital. Born in Southampton County, he was a son of the late William Richard and Effie Tena Raiford Galtress. He was a retired motor grader operator with Union Camp Corporation and a member of Franklin Baptist Church. Mr. Galtress was a member of Hunterdale Senior Citizens, High Street Senior Citizens, Oak Street Senior Citizens and the Sedley Hunt Club. He was a master wood craftsman and enjoyed sharing the talent of his works with others.

Survivors include three sisters, Dorothy Denson of Suffolk, Jean Vaughan of Franklin and Lillian Travis of Wakefield; one brother, George Galtress of Franklin; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Galtress was predeceased by two daughters, Burnell G. Fowler and Virginia G. Darden; two sons, Thomas Galtress Jr. and Richard Allen Galtress; three sisters, Betty Adams, Mabel Arrington and Martha Duke; and three brothers, Henry Galtress, Richard Alton Galtress and Norman Boykin.
