Vera Ruthl (MUR) Edwards, age 90, passed away in Clovis, New Mexico on Tuesday, November 23, 2010, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Edwards was born September, 15, 1920, at Dayton, New Mexico. She and her husband, Gordon, were married November 12, 1935. They had made their home at the Diamond A Ranch for a time before moving to Quay in 1943. In 1944, they moved back to the Diamond A Ranch. In 1948, they came back to Quay where they ran a family dairy. In 1949, they operated the Quay Store and in 1950, moved to the Beck Ranch. In 1953, the family moved into Tucumcari where she waitressed at many of the Tucumcari restaurants. From 1960, she was the Post Master of the Quay Post Office retiring in 1990. She had been a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Tucumcari.
Surviving her are 3 sons, Gary Dwain Edwards of Quay, New Mexico, Gordon Allen Edwards of Rosedale, New Mexico, and Danny Joe Edward of Quay, New Mexico; 2 daughters, Bobbie Ruth Evans of Morse, Texas, and Billie Rae Hicks of Macedonia, Illinois; 16 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 42 great great grandchildren, and 1 great great great grandchild, and her brother, Dwight Ray House of Ennis, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert J. and Cora Bennett House and by her husband, Gordon Edwards; 5 brothers; 3 sisters, and one grandson.
Services celebrating her life will be Monday morning, November 29, 2010, in the Dunn Memorial Chapel beginning at 10:00 AM with Rev Herb Gage, Minister of the Trinity Baptist Church officiating. Pall bearers will be her grandsons, Allen Edwards, Russell Edwards, Gary Dale Edwards, Wade Edwards, Curtis Hicks, Jammie Hicks, and O.J. Edwards. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Quay Cemetery at Quay, New Mexico.
