KENTUCKY. STAMPING GROUND SHOOTING. Young Son of Tom Southworth Luther Killing Marshal Duke With the Latter revolver. Georgetown KY Sept. 21. There were new developments Wednesday in the double tragedy at Stamping Ground Monday evening, in which Town Marshal Charles Duke and Tom Southworth were almost instantly killed in a battle on the street Southworth’s son (Luther) is under arrest, charged with murder. Two eyewitnesses at the scene have been found. They state that a terrible struggle took place between the three men, and the marshal was getting badly used up when he shot and killed the elder Southworth. It is alleged that young Southworth then tore the pistol from the marshal's hand and shot him through the heart with his own pistol. It was not at first known who killed Duke, as Tom Southworth's pistol was found leaded in every chamber. At the coroner's inquest young Southworth swore that he was unarmed and fired no shot, and an unknown party was believed to have done the deed. Young Southworth was arrested at the conclusion of his father's funeral in Owen county Wednesday, and will brought to Georgetown, where he will have an examining trial Thursday.
