Mrs. Van Dusen Dead
Rebecca Eleanor Cornwell was born in Illinois February 20, 1857. When a child, she moved with her parents to Harrisonville, Mo., and later in Bigelow, where she grew to womanhood.
On July 19, 1874 she was married to Royal Van Dusen. They moved from Holt county, Missouri to Smith County, Kansas, where they have resided since 1876. To this union were born three children, Myrtle Peebles, and Edith Johnson, both of Lebanon and Orrin Van Dusen of Norfolk, Nebr..all of whom were present.
Mrs Van Dusen departed from this life at 11:15 p.m., November 21, 1926 at the age of 69 years, 9 months and 1 day.
She united with the Oaks Creek Christian church about 34 years ago lived a faithful Christian life.
She was among the first pioneer woman to come to this country and no night was too dark or road too long for her to go to the bedside of a needy friend or neighbor. Nothing gave her more pleasure than to give and do for others. She wanted to do for herself and was able to do so until 24 hours before she was taken by death. She was a wonderful homemaker and her home was one which was open to all who wished shelter and hospitality. Her life was well lived and she has left an example that will be remebered.
Besides her family she leaves one brother W.T. Cornwell, of this community and three grandchildren.
Death was caused from a stroke of apoplexy suffered. Saurday night she had been in poor health for several months.
The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Christian church, with Rev. Mrs. Beam in charge. Burial was in Oak Creek cemetery.
