Laura D. Murphy was the first wife of John Columbus Aaron. John C. Aaron married Laura Murphrey, July 19, 1881, recorded in Book F, page 351 of Hempstead County, Ark. marriage records. A note with the marriage record states that John had neither a living parent or guardian in a letter from the Attorney General of Arkansas, dated August, 1875. Since John was under 21 years of age and without parents or guardian, the Attorney General had to give permission for his marriage.
John Columbus Aaron was the only son of Geo. Washington Aaron and Sophia Powell. He was the grandson of Henry J. Powell and Elizabeth Sanderson who came to Arkansas from Limestone County, Alabama by 1850. Henry J. Powell patented 320 acres of land in Section 30, Twp 14 South, Range 24 West in 1856. Geo. Washington Aaron patented 40 acres next this land in 1860 and married Henry Powell's daughter, Sophia.
