Bertha Lee Abbott Stewart, 90, of Florence passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014 in Birmingham. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Elkins Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Earl Holt officiating. Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include her daughter, Anna Catharine Tribble (Mike), their children, Tara Hyde, Katharine Sweatt, Warren Austin R. Stewart, Kris and Wes Tribble, and eight grandchildren; son, Warren R. Stewart, III (Susan G.), their daughter, Rachael D. Lewis and three grandchildren; and son, Roddie L. Stewart (Susan O.), their children, Wendy Stewart, Les Stewart, and two grandchildren; and sister, Bobbie Abbott Pearce of Texas.
Mrs. Stewart worked at TVA with her future father-in-law, Warren R. Stewart, Sr. where she met and eventually married Warren R. Stewart, Jr. after he returned from spending 40 months in a Japanese POW camp. She then worked as an LPN at the ECM ER for several years before working in the infirmary at UNA.
Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her husband, Warren R. Stewart, Jr.; grandson, William Warren "Billy" Stewart; sisters, Lillie Opal McBride, Leta Pearl Richardson, and Frankie Abbott Graham; and brothers, Lawrence Abbott and Prentis Abbott.
She will be remembered as a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother and overall caregiver.
