Betty Jane Abbott, 75, of New Castle, Va., passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2007.
Betty graduated from Radford College on May 31, 1952 with her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Biology. She was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma for 56 years she was initiated on March 6, 1950. She was initiated into the Alpha Theta Chapter of Radford College at V.P.I. She majored in Biology and Social Studies. Her activities included News Editor and Assistant Editor, Y.W.C.A., A.A., and Tyler House Council. She was an active and generous Alumna member. She obtained her Circle Degree Award on March 26, 1956. She was also a graduate of Virginia Tech receiving her Masters Degree in Biology. She worked as a Biologist for the National Cancer Institute of N.I.H. in Frederick, Maryland. She was also an active member of the Hyattstown Christian Church in Clarksburg, Maryland. She retired in 1992 and returned to Craig County, Va. She also returned to the Craig Healing Springs Christian Church in New Castle, Va.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Richard William Abbott and Delena Jane Huffman Abbott.
She is survived by her nearest relatives, first cousins, Edith Elmore, Berlin Huffman, Bettie St. Clair, Andrew Snodgrass and numerous other cousins.
