Joseph Alvin Pierce was born on Jan. 30, 1938, a son of Sidney and Mabel (Musland) in Anacortes, Wash. He was raised and educated in Norma and Kenmare, and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1955. He farmed with his dad and brother until his father passed away, at which time Joe took over the operations of the farm.

Joe was united in marriage to Betty Newman on Dec. 29, 1965, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Kenmare. Following their marriage, they lived on the Musland farm north of Kenmare. To this union two children, Jodi and John, were born. Betty passed away in June 1973. Following her death, the family moved into Kenmare.

Joe was united in marriage to Ione Peterson on July 14, 1984, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Kenmare. Joe retired from farming in 1991, and then started his own painting service.

Joe was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed playing pool, watching all kinds of sports, especially the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Joe was very proud of his two granddaughters: Kylee and Lacey. He enjoyed spending time with them and attending their activities when he was able. Along with his grandchildren, he enjoyed the companionship of his special cat Boots. He will be deeply and sadly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
