John Abshire, age 75, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2011, at his residence.

Born April 22, 1935, in Kaplan, he was a resident of Moss Bluff. A retired Louisiana State Trooper with over 10 years of service, he received various awards throughout his career.

Mr. Abshire was an active member of CFMA, having received awards from the association as well as being named their Mardi Gras King in 2008. Known to many as "Johnny Crawfish" for his radio show on KAOK, he loved to cook, bake, and barbeque. Mr. Abshire also loved French music and fishing. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Preceding him in death was his two sons, Jordan and James Abshire, a previous wife, Edna Abshire, and a grandson, Jeremy Abshire.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy L. Abshire of Moss Bluff; his children, Audrey Vincent and husband, Dennis of Youngsville, John C. Abshire, Jr. of Hackberry, Jacque Abshire and wife, Diana of Sulphur, Jacob Abshire and wife, Dawn of Hackberry, Anita Abshire and companion, Kyle Blackmon of Carlyss, and Jessie "J.T." Abshire and wife, Belinda of Hackberry; two step-sons, Howard Fontenot and wife, Elaine of Rosepine and Charles Fontenot and wife, Nancy of Buna, TX; one sister, Dorothy Bouley of Winnie, TX; one brother, Oran Abshire of Winnie, TX; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog who Mr. Abshire shared laughs, meals, his bed, and anything he could, Dynamite Abshire.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon on Monday, February 21, 2011, at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Moss Bluff. Msgr. Charles Dubois will officiate. Burial will follow in The New Hackberry Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning on Sunday, February 20, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary being prayed. The visitation will resume at the church on Monday, February 21, from 10 a.m. until time of service.
