KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY AS A HOUSTON POLICE OFFICER

Claude Ronnie Beck, 23, 1010 South Wayside, passed away Friday, December 10, 1971. Officer Beck was born December 29, 1947 in Warren, Arkansas and a former resident of Fordyce, Arkansas. Houston resident for four years. Member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church, Police Officer for City of Houston, Member of Houston Police Association, Texas Municipal Police Association, and Big Brothers Society.

Survivors: Wife Mrs. Shelia Beck of Houston; parents Mr. and Mrs. Harold Beck of Fordyce, Ark.; grandparents Mrs. Mary Beck of Ingalls, Ark, and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Green, Fordyce, Ark.; and sister Mrs. Lyn Bounds, Bearden, Ark.

Funeral services 5:00 PM Saturday, December 11, 1971 at the Forest Park Lawndale Chapel with Rev. Jack Strickland officiating.

Pallbearers Sgt. Joe Chebret and Officers Gary L. Clark, Jack Heard, R.J. "Bob" Francis, Tommy D. Crawford, Gerry L. Carter, Oscar I. Smith and Glen Thyssen. Honorary pallbearers: All members of the Houston Police Department.

Remains will be sent to Benton Funeral Home, Fordyce, Ark. for services at 10:00 AM, Monday, December 13, 1971 at the Beach Grove Baptist Church, Rev. Lovelady officiating. Interment in Oakland Cemetery, Fordyce, Ark.

Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Ave. 928-5141.

Officer Claude Beck was struck and killed by a camper while making a traffic stop. As he approached the vehicle the campter struck him. The driver of the vehicle was charged with murder by automobile.

Officer Beck was survived by his wife.

Ronnie lived to be 23 years, 11 months and 12 days old.
