Donald Francis Aaron Sr., 82, of Leavenworth, died Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Country Care of Easton Nursing Home.
He was born, Nov. 21, 1928, in Leavenworth, the son of Clarence Augustus and Florence Marian (Vogler) Aaron.
On May 29, 1954, he married Charlotte Louise Gail at St. Joseph Church in Leavenworth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sisters, Mary Louise Didde and Ann Marie Aaron; and his oldest son, Donald "Butch" Aaron Jr.
Don joined the Air Force in 1947, and receved an honorable discharge for health reasons. After his discharge from the Air Force he returned to Leavenworth and worked as the Driver Training Officer at Fort Leavenworth. He worked for Commerce Acceptance, The Reilly Agency, sold insurance for the Kelly agency, ran a Sinclair gas station, owned and operated Leavenworth Battery Supply and Don Aaron Realty Company. He served three separate terms as the First District County Commissioner. He loved the county life and enjoyed raising cattle.
Don was a strong supporter of Catholic education sending his five children to Catholic school. He was the athletic director at Immaculata High School in the 1950s. He worked many fund raisers and was the voice of Immaculata football while his son's played.
He was a life-long member of St. Joseph Church, Eagles Aerie # 55, Past President of Leavenworth Board of Realtors, past member of the Knights of Columbus and served on the Mid America Regional Council during his years as County Commissioner.
