Melvin Adami, 78, of Sheridan, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2011, at his home surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.

Melvin was born on May 1, 1932, in Casper to Leo and Dortha (Lees) Adami.

He moved to Buffalo with his family in 1943. He graduated from Johnson County High School in 1950.

Melvin was married to Marjorie Brug on July 26, 1951. They had three children and were divorced in 1979.

He worked with the family business delivering ice and milk until 1959. Melvin served as manager of the Johnson County Co-op for 14 years.

While in Buffalo, Melvin was the charter president of the Buffalo Jaycees; a member of the City Council for eight years; served on the City Planning Board for 10 years and served on the Johnson County Planning Board for eight years. He was a lifetime member of the Sheridan Elks Lodge #520.

Melvin was married to Mary E. Ferriter on October 5, 1979, in Story.

He managed and together they owned Big C Service & Supply, Inc., with offices in Sheridan, Casper and Gillette and Billings, Mont. The business was closed in 1982.

Melvin managed Piney Island Service in Story for six years. He worked for Fasteners, Inc. in Gillette and managed their Rapid City, S.D., store for eight years, retiring in 1994.

Melvin and Mary returned to Sheridan in 1998 where they lived until their deaths.

Melvin is survived by his sisters, Geraldine "Jerry" Campbell of Bountiful, Utah, Doris Jones of Billings, Mont.; sister-in-law Bee Adami of Monument, Colo. and brother Marvin (Joyce) Adami of Billings, Mont.; his children, Lori (John) Walters of Fargo, N.D., Steve (Mandy) Adami of Buffalo, Brad (Brenda) Adami of Black Hawk, S.D., and stepson Mal (Vi) McGill of Sheridan; his grandchildren, Michelle Graham of Fargo, N.D., John (Teo) Walters of Austin, Texas, Greg (Angela) Walters of Chesapeake, Va., Melode (Troy) Ward of Bella Vista, Ark., Brian Adami of Casper, Molly Adami of Laramie, Jason (Cristi) McGill of Great Falls, Mont., Shandi (Ryan) Camino of Sheridan, Eric Stringer of Sheridan, eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo D. and Dortha A. (Lees) Adami; his brother, Lee Adami; and his wife, Mary Adami.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 7, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 102 S. Conner Street, Sheridan with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating.

A celebration reception will follow the services at First Christian Church.

Burial will be at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.
