Carl Ben Abercrombie, 78, of Crescent, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Guthrie. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Crescent... Burial followed at Mound Valley Cemetery in Thomas, under direction of Abernathy Funeral Home of Crescent. He was born April 28, 1924, in Thomas to Harvey and May Abercrombie...1942 graduate of Thomas High School...served in the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor. He played in the U.S. Navy band for three years. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor of music education degree...achieved his master's degree at West Texas State University. He taught for 35 years at various levels of education, from college though grade school. He served as president of the Colorado Bandmasters' Assocation. Survivors: wife, Willa Mae; one son, Roger Abercrombie; one daughter, Janet Fisher and husband William; one half sister, Glenda Eisenhour, and three granddaughters. He was preceded in his death by his parents, and two sisters, Mrs. Ossie Conklin and Ethyl Christensen.
