He was united in marriage to Alta Menagh on February 23,1929. They spent their lifetime in the Mascot-Atlanta community. They moved to Atlanta in 1961 and were moving to Holdrege at the time of his death.
He was a member of The United Methodist Church of Atlanta. He was a devoted husband and kind father and had a large circle of friends.
He was preceded in death by his two sons, Gerald in 1945 and Cleatus in 1958; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Abbott and Mrs. Vesta Pape and one brother, William.
He is survived by his wife, Alta; daughter-in-law, Ellen, and her husband, Reuben Fischer of Lincoln; two grandchildren, Cynthia Faye and Bruce Poehlman; three brothers, John of Fairbury, Nate of Atlanta, and Theodore of Madison, Nebraska; one sister, Mrs. Mary Philby of Hastings; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were conducted at The United Methodist Church, Atlanta, August 31, 1968 with Rev. Jim R. Kumpost and Rev. Virgil Anderson officiating. Music was furnished by Earl High accompanied by Mrs. Harlan Hock. Bearers were John Ivey, Albert Holste, Virgil David, Kenneth Broeker, Dean Miller, and Dean Salyers, with interment in the Oxford Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of Mitchell Funeral Home, Oxford.
