KINGSDOWN – Samuel Ercel Ellsworth Close, 98, died Monday, April 18, 2011 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas.

He was born October 1, 1912 at Ellsworth, Kansas, the son of Jacob and Grace Addington Close. A lifetime Resident of Kingsdown and graduated from the Kingsdown High School, he was a farmer.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsdown.

On December 31, 1936 he married Thelma Reazin at Hugoton, Kansas. She preceded him in death on December 8, 2004.

Survivors include: 4 daughters, Jeanie Chancellor and husband Roger, Tuttle, Oklahoma, Sharon Edwards and husband Pat, Olathe, Judy Crowley, Trenton Missouri and Kristi Janssen and husband Tom, Phoenix Arizona; 3 sisters, Myrna Lucas, Johnson, Kansas, Charyl Strandt, Milwaukie, Oregon and Delva Butts, Mulvane, Kansas; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Don Close; 2 brothers, Lenes and Leon Close; 3 sisters, Nettie Hanner, Josephine Pankratz and Leone Reazin.

Funeral Service will be 9:00 am Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsdown, with Rev. Orlando Jantz presiding. Friends may call from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm Friday at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Burial will be in Ford Cemetery, Ford.

The family suggests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church, Kingsdown in care of Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
