Graveside services for longtime Cortez resident, Duane Louis Belden will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 17 at Cortez Cemetery with Chaplain Marvin Graves officiating.

Visitation has been set for Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel.

Duane was born in Cortez on Oct. 4, 1925, the son of Frank Louis and Jewel Irene (Seibert) Belden. He passed away at his home in Cortez on Monday, July 9, 2007, at the age of 81.

On Jan. 11, 1948, Duane married Alma Jean Page in Aztec, N.M., sharing more than 59 years together in marriage. An organizer and doer and a very quiet pillar of his community, Duane helped to form Ski High Ski Club and served on the Board of Directors of San Juan Basin Vo-Tech School. He was a member of the Four Corners Boating Association. Duane was devoted to children, giving his time as a sponsor to 4-H kids, and supporting square dance kids, kids' swim team and kids' ski club. He loved time spent hunting (killing his last bull elk at 78 years of age!), skiing, boating and gambling.

Surviving Duane are his wife, Jean Belden of Cortez; daughter, Linda Sue Belden; two sons, Terry Lynn Belden and wife, Sharon and Rocky Lee Belden all of Cortez; six grandchildren, Duane, Erin, Tara, Britany, Bre, and Kevin; and five great grandchildren. Also surviving Duane are two sisters, Helen Moody of Dillon, S.C., and Barbara Beaty and hus band, Harold of Aztec, N.M.; and a very special cousin, Shirley Percell of Cortez.
