Jearl was a loving person who enjoyed seeing his family and friends happy. He loved his cousins dearly. Jearl had a lot of faith and love in Jesus Christ. He was an outstanding student, who was voted "Who's Who Among American High School Students". His hobbies included playing bass guitar, shooting, and he loved his truck.

Mr. Ruiz was born on Aug. 14, 1983 in Cortez, the son of Oscar and Zandra L. (Hart) Ruiz. He died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 in Denver at the age of 21.

Surviving are his parents, Zandra L. Hart of Tucson, Ariz., and Oscar Ruiz and wife, Sue Ann of Cortez; grandparents, Jeanette Hart of Cortez, and Jose Ruiz of Chihuahua, Mex.; great-grandfather, Edwin L. Hart of Tucson, Ariz.; sister, Jacqueline Ruiz-Hart of Tucson, Ariz.; and stepbrother, Ryan Thompson of Cortez; uncles and aunts, Eric Hart and wife, Shay, of Cortez, William Taft Hart of New York, and Alicia Guzman and husband, Juan, of Mexico; as well as his nieces and nephews, Kacey and Auston Hart of Cortez, Marta, Alicia, Carlos, and Ricky Guzman all of Mexico.

Preceding him in death are his grandfather, Bruce Hart; great-grandmother, Eileen Hart; and stepbrother, Benjamin James Sanders.

Memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Ruiz's memory to the Denver Automotive and Diesel College Scholarship Fund, 460 S. Lipan St., Denver, Colo. 80223.
Funeral services for former area resident Jearl Blake Ruiz will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Lifeway Baptist Church in Cortez. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery.
