Mr. Miller passed away at the Vista Grande Nursing Home on Monday, May 29, 2000, at the age of 80. He was born on Feb. 6, 1920 in Hallidayboro, Ill., the son of Roy Miller and Etta (Craig) Miller. On Aug. 6, 1944, Jesse took Irene Mae Freidenberger as his bride in Raton, N.M. Irene preceded him in death on Jan. 11, 1999.


"Colonel" served 26 years with the U.S. Air Force as a pilot. He was the first zoning administrator for Lakewood, Colo. when it incorporated, and owned AAA Storage here in Cortez. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason.


Three children, Kay Ramsey and her husband, Ron, of Arriola; Donna Rae Wagoner, of Federal Heights, Colo., and Jesse L. Miller Jr. and his wife Wendy, also of Arriola survive him. Colonel also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Burt and Bret Ramsey, Marsha Chaffin, Ronda Ficco, Tina Faulkenberry, Andrea, Dawn, and Heather Miller; and 12 great-grandchildren.


In addition to his wife, Colonel was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Wanda Whetstine.


Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Jesse " Colonel" Miller with Hospice of Montezuma. Services will be conducted by the Ertel Funeral Home.Funeral services for Jesse L. "Colonel" Miller will be held Friday, June 2, 2000, at the Trinity Lutheran Church beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor David Dahl will officiate. Interment services will be held at the Arriola Cemetery will military honors conducted by the High Frontier Honor Guard from Peterson Air Force Base located in Colorado Springs, Colo.


Visitation is scheduled for Thursday afternoon between the hours of 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel.
