Deeply loved by his family, Daniel brought profound pride to his parents and brother. Daniel had recently stated that his parents were his heroes. His family remembered him as kind and caring, someone who brought joy and a smile to those he met. Daniel worked as a pipeline welder, a trade taught to him by his father. Many hours were spent side by side as Marty instructed Daniel on how to weld. His family is comforted by knowing that Daniel's sins are forgiven and that he is with God.
Surviving Daniel are his loving parents, Marty and Connie Ruggles of Cortez; his brother, Matt Ruggles of Cortez; grandparents, Herbert and Dorothy Browning of Morganton, N.C. and Melvin and Cesarine Ruggles of Hildebran, N.C.; aunts and uncles, Rodney Ruggles and wife, Mary of Texas, Andrew Ruggles, Robert Ruggles, Elizabeth Ruggles, Janet Morgan and husband, Marty, and Keith Browning and wife, Laurie all of North Carolina. Also surviving Daniel are his cousins, Andrew, James, David, Ginny, Shane, Kyle, Samantha, Sara, Zack, Graham, and Jennifer; by his girlfriend, Erin Hurley; by dear friends, Jeremy Todd and Renwick Jacket; and by his beloved dog, Delilah.
